There are many reasons you may be pulled over by the police during a traffic stop and it is obvious that as soon as you see the flashing rights you need to comply. Preferably you should never drink excessively and drive. Getting caught up in a DUI charge can be very detrimental because of the damage it cases to personal reputation, finances and not to mention the risk you place other innocent bystanders in. Hiring a DUI lawyer can be useful in limiting the consequences. However sometimes you may drink well within legal limits and the law mistakenly takes you to be drunk. Never assume the law is right about arresting you. You need to be aware as to how much you drink and avoid if inebriated, but if not, then be aware of your rights.

As mentioned pulling over when signaled is a must. The last thing you need is to appear on television in a police chase, you are unlikely to win such a race. Know that the officer may have sufficient cause to pull you over even if your driving was impeccable. Simple issues such as a broken taillight are good enough pretext. It is recommended that you behave in an open and cooperative manner, within reason. If asked for license, registration and insurance, do comply. The office r is entitled to ask for such documentation. If he however asks about you drinking, you can decline to answer. A good option would be to ask him why he pulled you over.

If he however asks you to step outside your car, then do so. This request is also legally permissible. He may ask you to carry out a series of sobriety test from blowing into a breathalyzer to counting backwards. You are entitled to refuse any such request without being penalized for it. If you are however certain of your sobriety and want to go ahead with it, make sure that you ask the officer to have his camera on. Most police vehicles are equipped with these cameras and sometimes the officer will not turn it on. If you however make the request it does suggest you do not fear a courtroom seeing your conduct and judging for themselves your sobriety.
